 An assistant principal at a Nashville
middle school was shot and killed Thursday night and police are working to  identify the gunman. Metro police said Jamie L. Hopkins, 39, was
sitting in his car on Clay Street near 12th Avenue North around 9 p.m. when he was approached by a black man in his late-teens or early 20s.
 Hopkins  was shot during an argument with that man, police said.
 After he was  shot, Hopkins drove off but crashed a few blocks later at the intersection of  Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard and Clay Street. 
He was transported to  Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. 
Hopkins was the
assistant principal at Jere Baxter Middle School in Nashville.
