The man fatally wounded in the area of Lewis & Lafayette Streets in the
J.C. Napier public housing development late Sunday night is identified as Eric
Swanson, 30, who is last known to have lived on Lafayette Street.
The investigation to this point shows that Swanson was walking on Lewis
Street when he was shot. He ran to his girlfriend’s residence nearby. While on
the back porch, a red vehicle pulled up and transported Swanson to the VA
Hospital (the person in the red car did not stay with the victim). From there,
Swanson was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died
during surgery. Police were notified of the shooting by Vanderbilt
