NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said a man who was shot in the head during
a robbery attempt in Bordeaux passed away Tuesday afternoon.

Laron Owens, 18, died of his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
after being shot in the head around midnight Tuesday in the 3200 block of Curtis
Street. Derryen Doss, 22, was shot in the shoulder, but has since been released
from the hospital.

Police said Owens, Doss, and 19-year-old Leontay Harris were inside a 2004
Pontiac Grand parked near Owens' home when the gunman opened fire.

"We believe it's robbery, just based on what was said to the victims just
before the shots were fired," said Metro Police Captain Kenneth Walburn said
early Tuesday.

Police said the suspect ran off on foot. K-9 units were on scene to help
track the scent of the gunman, but he was not located.

A group of young men had reportedly been standing outside the car prior to
the shooting.  Police said officers smelled marijuana upon their arrival, and a
gun was recovered from a nearby trash can.

Harris was not hurt
