A Teenager is pleading with his community to help solve the murder of his cousin who was murdered in Edgehill earlier this week. Michael  Lavender, 17, is learning a tough lesson about gun violence.Police said his cousin, 25-year-old Matthew Hailey, was gunned down just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, and so far they have no leads. "He was shot eight times, like a dog, like nobody cared nothing about him... It couldn't be an accident.  It had to be a grudge because he was shot eight times," said Lavender.
Officers arrived on the scene to find Hailey dead on the front porch of an apartment. Police said he was shot down in the middle of the street in the 1400 block of 11th Avenue South and then tried to run to a nearby house for help. Witnesses reported seeing two young men running from the scene. Hailey's family believes someone out there has more information but may be scared to come forward. "I think somebody knows something, and seen something.  They just don't want to speak up about the situation, and I would love for them to call to let somebody know something, so it can be solved," said  Lavender. Hailey's family said there is a "no snitching" culture among
young people in the neighborhood, but they want to send a message that the
violence has to stop and cooperation with police is a must. "Instead
of picking up guns and knives and stuff... Maybe we can talk everything out,"
Lavender said.
